Volunteer FAQ

Yes, all volunteers must be 17 or older for daytime shifts and 21 or older to volunteer for evening events.

There are many ways to volunteer for the Games.  Some volunteer opportunities include:

  • Serving Meals
  • Coordinating Community Service Projects
  • Scorekeeping
  • Bus Captains
  • Evening Event Chaperones
  • Hospitality Greets

Host FAQ

All athletes must be housed in a Jewish home (that contains at least one Jewish adult).

A host family will be responsible for:

  • Each family that has an athlete participating in the JCC Maccabi Games will be a host family.
  • A host family must house two or more athletes
  • Each host family must attend a host family orientation run by the LJCC.
  • Each host family must drop-off and pick-up athletes at either Chabad of Alabama or the LJCC each day of the Games.
  • Each athlete must have a seat belt, their own bed (air mattresses are accepted), and access to laundry facilities.
  • Provide breakfast and evening snacks.
  • Each host family will have one night where they plan dinner and activity with the athletes to show off our wonderful city.

You can request gender, age, and sports, but these requests are not guaranteed.

Athlete FAQ

Jewish athletes competing with the Birmingham delegation must be between the ages of 12 and 16, as of July 31, 2017, and can participate in all sports. Athlete from visiting delegations must be between the ages of 13 and 16, as of July 31, 2017.  Local athletes are required to house two or more visiting athletes.

Yes, all JCC Maccabi Games athletes must identify themselves as Jewish.

No. If you are a Jewish teen and live in an area that does not have a JCC you are welcome to join Team Bham. Fill out the form to the right and you will be contacted with more information.
